The staff and the majority of the membership of GigglyGrinch Forums has nothing to do with Anandtech management or administration, and thus cannot authoritatively answer questions regarding Anandtech.

To address the recent questions about connectivity to Anandtech: most of us don't really care whether Anandtech is up or not.

Thus, all questions concerning such shall be directed to /dev/null.

Please remember that IPB features member moderation and banning in much the same way that Anandtech does for those people that may be inclined to violate this request.

> Requirements for Adult Forum Access!
Posted by GigglyGrinch - 06-24-04 13:26 - 10 comments
Here at the Giggly Grinch Forums, we do have an Adult Forum. I created it because I wanted a space where we could talk about adult topics and/or post pictures without worrying about children/underage teens seeing it.

In order to gain access, you must be an active member here in other forums for a while first. I will say that the decision finally rests on myself, the other admins, and the other moderators for the final acceptance for the Adult Forum. If we feel that you meet our requirements, we will give you access and the password.

So, once you feel that you've been an active member AND you're over the age of 18, send me a PM stating your age and your request for access and the password. Sometimes I'm unavailable, so if you don't hear from me for a day or two, PM another moderator or administrator and they can help you.

I hope this clears up any and all questions.

Posted by Caramel - 10-17-03 20:37 - 827 comments
the idea behind this thread is to post when something (or, someone) fucks you over.

for instance...

"fuck rainy days."

"fuck the person that stole my parking spot."

"fuck the cable company for changing around the order of the channels."

can we get this stickied? if not, fuck it. ;)

Today isn't even useful enough to actually suck, it's just blah. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Yeah, so there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

You know, you guys really oughta change the locks around here once in a while. I still appear to have them fancy moderatin' powers. And 'parently I remember my password. Surprised me too. Think of the damage I could do! If only I weren't so lazy. And more imaginative. Who'd ever suspect me?

Anyhow, probably not about to fill you all in on the years I've been missing, but I just thought I'd stop by and say hi at you. I see the forums are still alive, if not highly active. Hope you're all doing alright. Or as well as possible, anyhow.

Sadly, it's time for me to head to bed. Well not entirely sadly, I love my bed. But sadly because for some strange reason I'm in a foruming mood today, and who knows when that'll happen again.

1. Kill a few flies.
2. Put them in the sun to dry for one hour.
3. Once they are dry, pick a pencil and paper... Let your imagination flow.

Few examples ......

Took just 5 minutes. Nice to be able to do both in the same room. Forgot not to smile while driver's pic was taken but the lady said my little smile was OK. I had 'tuque hair' however. We have to remove our glasses now for that pic. Not for the health card pic though. License was $75 for 5 years. Good thing the health card is free.

Hmmm. Wondering whether to get one. A bit pricey perhaps, but most good unlocked gsm smartphones are pricey at inception. Would like a 850/1900/2100 3G version, but otherwise the stats and online demos look impressive.

> I dreamed about... YOUR MOM!
Posted by Cygni - 01-3-10 20:45 - 0 comments
No, seriously, I did!

Well, Heather's mom at least.

So, in my dream I had "Heather's Mom" programmed into my cell phone. (From calling Heather at home long ago, I guess?) My phone rang and I saw it was her! I answered and she was doing some sort of soft sell telemarketing thing. After a sec I realized she was cold calling off a list and didn't know who I was.

She invited me to a party for somebody named Ashley (off a reality tv show or something) and then I asked, "do you have a daughter named Heather?" Long pause and then she said yes, and I told her who I was on the forums and we were all friendly and laughing and stuff.

And then I woke up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hi Heather's mom!!! Feel free to call me again anytime. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It's 2010 and I am happy. I got some good looks tonight. My quasi-boyfriend's friend kept taking pictures of me.... that was a bit weird.

How was your night.

> Patient Advocacy
Posted by GigglyGrinch - 12-28-09 04:25 - 2 comments
I've been thinking a lot about starting some kind of patient advocacy site of some sort. I don't really know if it's even possible or a good idea. When I got diagnosed with a brain tumor, we used to get what medical records when we could. We would notice all kinds of things from stuff they hadn't told us to inconsistencies with where the brain tumor was located. Then throughout the years I would talk to fellow patients. I'd hear them say they'd been prescribed a medicine but didn't know either what it was for or what it was called or both. People would have questions they needed answered, but would either just not ask the doctor or be so rushed in an appointment, simply not have a chance to ask. (This all goes for me as well.)

Something else that's bothered me is how doctors' office staff can be down right mean. I've called and called offices and have MA's (Medical Assistants) never tell the doctor I've called. I've been blown off by receptionists, ignored by doctors, and completely irritated with how offices are run.

I had to go to the ER tonight because of severe pain in my wrist/hand. I know I have carpal tunnel and I was recently referred to an orthopedic doctor for both hand/wrist pain and the problems I'm having in my knees. I'm not supposed to see the orthopedic surgeon until January 7th. They told me that they'd only address one thing at a time and asked which I'd like to discuss first. At that time my knees were the bigger of my problems. The past couple of days, though, the pain in my hand and wrist has become unbearable. I was sort of wondering if I might have started up with RA or something because I'd never had this pain before.

The doctor in the ER said that my carpal tunnel has just gotten very bad and that I'm going to need surgery. Great. Surgery number 11 and I'll probably need another on my knee. The orthopedic doctor's office staff (at least at the office I'm going to be seeing him) is very rude. Lovely. I'm SO looking forward to talking to them again. The doctor said that he would have tonight's visit transcribed and sent to both my primary care doctor's office and the ortho. Maybe they'll see me before January 7th? I suppose one could always hope. I'm practically an invalid right now. I'm right-handed and that's the one that's hurting. I had to sign everything left-handed and just getting dressed is a chore. Thankfully my mom came over and is going to stay a couple of days to help me out.

I mentioned my ER visit to say this: I saw someone in there that I've known for about 20 or so years. I found out that she's got cancer. She's getting radiation. She was in Kaiser and had to go to UCLA. (I can't remember the reason, but it had to do with her insurance.) She had to pay out-of-pocket for the UCLA visit(s). She has two children and can't work. She's contacted the American Cancer Society and they won't help her with anything. This surprises me because they were wonderful to me when I had cancer. She's being turned down for any kind of general assistance from welfare. Social Security and whatever else she's applied for has denied her. She has a host of other problems as well. I suggested she get a lawyer to fight for her.

Is there some way to set up a site to give patients information on how to be more proactive in their healthcare? Maybe even a way to inform someone like my friend on how to/what to do to be able to get on some sort of disability. I'd love to be able to tell/teach/help people how to find out all the information they need to know about how they're being taken care of. I want people to be empowered and know that they have the right to get their medical records and find out what's really going on with them.

Do any of you have any ideas?

(And starting tonight/tomorrow) What's the best gift you got?

Because I DVR most things, I fast-forward through just about every commercial, but I've seen bits and pieces of the trailer(s) for Avatar. Any of you going to see this or think it'll be good?
